Today, I'm going to highlight some alarming facts of career counseling in Pakistan. Let's face it. Pakistan is a developing country where the scope of career counseling is close to zero.
Explore Facts and Figures Regarding Student Career Choice in Pakistan
Parents who are concerned about their children's education usually pick some highest-paying jobs in Pakistan. Later, they plan the whole career of their students around that job. It's a bitter reality that is faced by 9 out of 10 people.
If I say more than 50 percent of parents in Pakistan want their children to become a Doctor or Engineer, then I'm not wrong.
You must be surprised to know the statistical figure related to both fields.
- Every year, more than 41,000 students appear in the entry test of medical colleges, and among them, only 5,000 take admission.
- Every year, 70,000 students attempt engineering entry tests, and among them, only 7200 enroll themselves in PEC accredited programs.
- Only 26 percent of students in Pakistan make it to higher-level education, which certainly means that more than 74 percent of students drop out due to multiple reasons.
- Almost 150,000 students in Pakistan belong to other group education. I mean, they are neither medical nor engineering students. You know the worst part is these students don't know where to go in their career path.
Do you know that more than 250,000 students are suffering due to a lack of career counseling in Pakistan?
They take a master's degree and don't know what to do with it. How to make the best living from it? In homes where parents are illiterate, but they want their students to get an education, students feel good that they are studying something. However, when it comes to career choice.
They are always at this point, "I Don't Know What Career I Want."
Now when you check the alarmingly low rate of school-going children, you realize that only one-third of the total student population is doing something about their career while two-third leave their studies and start doing some other things.
Some students join the family business. Others get married. Different students have different situations, but none of them take a step toward a career that can make a big difference in his life.
Why is that all happening?
Lack of Career Counseling in Pakistan is the Biggest Problem
School students need a sense of direction on their career path. Unfortunately, both private and public schools in Pakistan don't offer career counseling services to their students. There are only a few schools where students can learn and understand their career direction, but their numbers are minimal.
Don't forget Students are real Assets of a Country. If we don't invest in their skills development and education, then there are minimal chances of Bright future of Pakistan.
Fortunately, different cities of Pakistan have Skill Development Council where a student can go and learn something meaningful. But again, they need to understand whether to go Right or Left in their career path.
Importance of Career Counseling in Pakistan
Every student in Pakistan deserves a career counselor who can guide him toward the best professional path.
No need to Follow Others: Do What you Can Do The Best
Just because your friend is becoming a doctor doesn't mean you don't need to follow him. The fact is that most students enroll in higher education because they don't want to leave their friends behind.
The idea of career counseling is very different. You don't have to follow others. Instead, you need to explore your talent and then start working on it. Every student is different. Some students can do math well, while others can handle debate very well.
Now a math student goes to the medical field, won't be able to shine. However, if he goes into the accounting and finance field, then it's the right career path. By following that path, he can become a successful person in no time while he would struggle a lot in the medical field.
No Need to Feel Lost on Your Career Path
A career counselor is a professional who knows what is best for you, according to a degree you have. He will map out the full career plan according to your skills, interest, and knowledge level. This expert can help you understand your career goals and tell you how you can achieve them. What degree will you next enroll in?
Whether to opt for an Internship or apprenticeship?
Any question you have regarding your career will get the most satisfactory answer from a Career counselor. Students can find the best jobs in Pakistan, only when they have true sense of career direction.
